About the Institute

Advancing Behavioral Systems Alignment

The Eben System Institute is a research-focused institution dedicated to advancing behavioral systems alignment and improving implementation outcomes across complex human systems. The Institute develops structured frameworks that examine how readiness, behavioral constraints, and system environments interact to influence the success or failure of change initiatives.

Rather than treating implementation failure as a purely technical problem, the Institute approaches change as a systems alignment challenge. Through applied research and systems thinking, we analyze whether interventions are introduced at the appropriate time, address the correct behavioral or structural barriers, and operate at the system level where meaningful leverage exists.

The Framework

The EBEN Integrated Model

Readiness

Change succeeds only when individuals, teams, or systems are prepared. Readiness includes motivation, capacity, and timing.

Constraint

Barriers—structural, cultural, or cognitive—can block desired behavior. Identifying constraints is key to effective interventions.

System Level

Interventions work best at the level where leverage exists—individual, organisational, or policy. Misaligned efforts often fail.

Our Purpose

Aligning systems
for better outcomes

Many well-designed interventions fail not because solutions are absent, but because they are introduced at the wrong time, target the wrong constraints, or act at the wrong level of the system. These misalignments often undermine policy implementation, organizational change efforts, and institutional reform.

The Institute exists to advance clearer thinking and more structured approaches to implementation research, organizational systems analysis, and public policy implementation across healthcare systems, organisations, education, and community environments. By strengthening alignment between readiness, constraints, and system levels, we support more coherent and sustainable implementation strategies.

Collaborate with the Institute

We welcome partnerships with universities, public sector organisations, and research groups interested in advancing systems alignment and implementation research.
